Born in Redwood City during the Strawberry Full Moon of 1982, raised in East Palo Alto, Laurence Jones grew up exposed to the joy & melancholy of ordinary life. The constant crackle of radios, the flickering of Televisions, the scent of fresh Cornbread or the simple act of documenting life with point & shoot cameras inform their artistic practice over decades of life.
Wide eyes become wise eyes. Part historian, part storyteller, they seek to use their writing and photography to preserve people and objects before they are lost to time and erased by dominant culture. They seek to make connections between generations. They hope to preserve a legacy of Black vibrancy to spread a spirit of Queer rebellion and give hope for a vibrant, revolutionary future. Beauty lies in the complexity & nuance of the mundane.
